Human hand washes up on Isle of Wight beach

A human hand has been discovered washed up on a beach.
It was found by a member of the public at Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight and passed to police, who are investigating.
The hand was said to have been in the water for a "significant amount of time".
It was discovered on Wednesday morning.
A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: "A member of the public handed in human remains at the Boat House at Freshwater Bay this morning. We were called at 11.02am.
"Initial analysis confirms that this is a human hand and has been in the water for a significant amount of time.
"It has been sent away for further analysis."

Victims' group withdraws from child abuse inquiry amid 'botch job' claims

Professor Alexis Jay is the fourth different chairwoman of the inquiry. A group representing 600 victims of sexual abuse has withdrawn from the official inquiry, branding it an "unpalatable circus". The Shirley Oaks Survivors Association says it has lost confidence in the inquiry's leadership, in another major blow to the independent probe. The group represents former residents of children's homes run by Lambeth Council in south London who were abused by paedophiles over several decades. In a strongly-worded statement the group said it believes the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) is a "botch job" and  chair Professor Alexis Jay  is the wrong person to lead it. Canada high: Marijuana set to be legalised for recreational use

Canada is set to legalise marijuana for recreational use by July next year. Such use is already allowed in the US states of Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Alaska as well as California, Massachusetts, Maine and Nevada. But Canada would become the first G7 industrialised nation to do so nationwide. Marijuana for medical purposes is already legal but annual sales of recreational marijuana could be as high as £5.2bn. The Liberal government in Ottawa has put forward legislation to end the prohibition of pot, and would let adults possess 30g of the drug in public. It set the legal age at 18, but said it would be up to each province to decide if it should be higher and also how the drug is distributed and sold.
