'Russia hacking code' found on Vermont utility computer

An electrical company in the US state of Vermont says it has found malware code allegedly used by Russian hackers on one of its company laptops. The Burlington Electric Department  said it had taken "immediate action to isolate"  the computer, which was not connected to the electrical grid. The government alerted them to the "Grizzly Steppe" code on Thursday. The same day, the US expelled 35 Russian diplomats over alleged Russian interference in November's election. Moscow has denied any involvement in the hacking of the Democratic party and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. On Friday, US President-elect Donald Trump praised  Russian President Vladimir Putin for not expelling American diplomats in a tit-for-tat response. Diplomatic spat goes undiplomatic Can the hack be traced to Russia? The Burlington company said it was "working with federal officials to trace this malware and prevent any other attempts to infiltrate utility sy

An SUV drove off the fifth floor of a parking garage in Japan Saturday, killing three of its five passengers, local media reported. The vehicle fell around 1:00 pm (0400 GMT) from the parking garage in Yokosuka city, south of Tokyo, according to media witnesses’ accounts. Television footage showed a metal fence guarding the fifth floor of the garage was cut, apparently falling to the ground with the silver vehicle. “The noise was like thunder. The fence came down and the vehicle came down,” a witness told national broadcaster NHK. The accident killed a man in his 50s, a woman in her 40s and another woman in her 70s, while a man in his 20s and an 11-year-old boy suffered serious injuries, according to private Nippon Television. They were passengers of the vehicle, Japanese media said. Local police and rescue officials could not immediately comment on the case.

Russia-US row: Trump praises Putin amid hacking expulsions

Image
US President-elect Donald Trump has praised Vladimir Putin for not expelling American diplomats, despite a similar move by Washington in response to alleged election interference. Mr Trump tweeted : "Great move on delay - I always knew he was very smart!" Moscow denies any involvement in election-related hacking. But in one of the last moves of the Obama presidency, Washington demanded Russian 35 diplomats leave the country by Sunday afternoon. Mr Putin ruled out an immediate tit-for-tat response. The row follows allegations that Russia directed hacks against the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, releasing embarrassing information through Wikileaks and other outlets to help Mr Trump win the election. Several US agencies including the FBI and the CIA say this is the case, but Mr Trump initially dismissed the claims as "ridiculous". He has since said he will meet US intelligence chiefs to be "updated on the facts of th

The Beatles' first manager Allan Williams dies, aged 86

The Beatles' first manager, Allan Williams, has died at 86, it has been announced. Williams took the budding musicians under his wing while they decorated and cleaned his Jacaranda Club in Liverpool. The band were later driven to Hamburg in Germany in 1960 by Williams and they learned many of the skills that helped them to stardom. The Jacaranda announced the death on Friday, writing on Facebook: "Today is one of the saddest days in our history. "The Jacaranda's original owner and the man who discovered The Beatles, Allan Williams, has sadly passed away at the age of 86." When the band first asked to play at the Jacaranda, Williams instead gave them jobs renovating the Slater Street venue. Sir Paul described Williams in The Beatles Anthology as "a great guy, a really good motivator". Williams parted ways with the band - then comprising John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best  - in 1961. They signed

A Russian Laboratory Has Invented A Way To Remove The Black Skin Layer Of Black People

Multiple websites have relayed information, citing Moscow News as the source. These media outlets are reporting that a Russian laboratory have invented a way to remove the “black skin” layer on Africans. In addition to the health risks associated with this new controversial procedure, some believe that thousands of immigrants are trying to integrate into Russia by matching the skin color of the local people. The process to remove the black is fairly simple. The patient soaks in a mixture of oxytane and benzadiazepine for approximately six hours before the layer is peeled off.

Putin: No expulsions in response to US sanctions

Vladimir Putin has rejected plans to expel US diplomats in a tit-for-tat retaliation against Washington - and instead invited their children to visit the Kremlin. The surprise announcement from the Russian President comes hours after foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said he would be asking Mr Putin to declare 35 US officials in Moscow and St Petersburg as "persona non grata" - the same number being expelled by the US. Mr Putin condemned the US action and said Russia had "all the grounds for a comparable response" but added: "We will not create problems for American diplomats. We will not expel anyone."  He said he reserved the right to retaliate but would wait and see how Donald Trump acts when he succeeds President Barack Obama next month. The Russian President said he would not stoop to the level of "kitchen irresponsible diplomacy" and even extended an invitation to the children of American diplomats to a festive party at the Kremlin.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Chinese club offered Real Madrid £250m move, says agent

Image
Real Madrid were offered about £250m by an unnamed Chinese club for Cristiano Ronaldo, says his agent Jorge Mendes. He said the 31-year-old Portugal captain had no interest in the deal, which included an £85m annual salary. Ronaldo said he could play for another 10 years in November after  signing a new deal  with Madrid until June 2021. "The Chinese market is a new market. They can buy a lot of players, but it is impossible to go for Ronaldo," said Mendes. "Cristiano is the best player in the world and best ever. It is normal to have some offers," added the Portuguese. Under the offer claimed by Mendes, Ronaldo would have earned £1.6m a week in a deal worth almost treble the world-record transfer fee of  £89m paid by Manchester United  to Juventus for midfielder Paul Pogba. Mendes told Sky Italia: "From China, they've offered 300m euros (£257m) to Real Madrid and more than 100m euros per year to the player. "But money is not everythin

Body found as Brazil seeks missing Greek ambassador

Image
Police in Rio de Janeiro have found a body inside a burnt-out car that had been rented by the Greek ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis. Mr Amiridis, 59, went missing three days ago after travelling to Rio from Brasilia for the traditional New Year celebrations on Copacabana beach. He was last seen on Monday in the city of Nova Iguacu on the outskirts of Rio, where the car was found. Forensic experts are carrying out tests to establish the body's identity. The ambassador's car was discovered under a flyover on one of the main access roads to Rio. He had phoned his wife from a flat in Nova Iguacu on Monday saying he was about to go out. He has not been heard from since. Police say it is unlikely that he was kidnapped, as no ransom has been sought. Rio has a high crime rate and violent incidents are not unusual, especially in the busy season between Christmas and New Year, when hundreds of thousands of tourists travel to the city.

United States to expel 35 Russian diplomats

Image
The US is to expel 35 Russian diplomats, and shut down two Russian compounds, in response to "harassment" of American diplomats in Moscow and alleged interference in the recent presidential election. The diplomats being asked to leave work at the Russian embassy in Washington, and at the country's consulate in San Francisco. Two Russian compounds in New York and Maryland, used for intelligence gathering, will be closed. Two US officials said measures were being taken after Russia allegedly hacked US political institutions and individuals. Moscow has denied hacking. In addition, Vladimir Putin's country is accused of helping President-elect Donald Trump, and other Republican candidates, by leaking information. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the US wanted to "definitively destroy US-Russia relations which have already reached a low". According to the Ria-Novosti news agency, Mr Peskov said Russia would "react in an adequate manner

Crashed Russian jet 'was functioning abnormally'

Image
Equipment on board a Russian military plane that crashed into the Black Sea was "functioning abnormally". Russian Air Force spokesman Sergei Bainetov said it was "up to the experts" to work out why the faults occurred on the Tu-154, which plunged into the sea on Sunday. He said flight recorder data showed there had been no fire or explosion prior to a crash that claimed 92 lives. Mr Bainetov added that audio from a cockpit conversation recorder indicated a "special situation" unfolded on the plane. Investigators have not ruled out a terror attack and are also looking at the possibility that a technical problem or human error caused the plane to come down. Search and rescue workers have recovered 19 bodies and approximately 230 body fragments, while more than 2,000 pieces of the jet have been pulled from the seabed. Among those who died were  dozens of singers in Russia's world-famous military choir  who were on their way to Syria to ent

Ponzi Scheme Gulps KICC’s $4.8m | Inquiry Finds Church Trustees Guilty of Mismanagement

Kingsway International Christian Centre , a 12,000-member megachurch in Britain headed by Nigerian Pastor,  Mathew Ashimolowo , lost $4.8 million to a Ponzi scheme after trustees carelessly invested money in it. The scam was the brainchild of former Premier League soccer player,  Richard Rufus . Rufus was a defender for  Charlton Athletic . He promised investors along with the church a return as high as 55 per cent. The Christian Post , reporting the findings of an inquiry published on December 14 by the Charity Commission for England and Wales revealed that the Kent-based 12,000 member Christian Centre suffered a net loss of about $4.8 million (£3.9 million) after its trustees invested over $6.1 million (£5 million) in four installments between June 2009 and June 2010. Rufus was a member and former trustee of the church. Rufus had guaranteed that the investments would earn a sizeable return totaling about 55 percent in a year. He was last year found guilty of defrauding about 1
