Drake, Kanye West and Justin Bieber won't attend the Grammys
Some of music’s biggest stars will be missing from Music’s Biggest Night. Drake, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and Frank Ocean are reportedly skipping the Grammys this year.
Ocean, who released Blonde and Endless last year, failed to submit either for consideration by the award show. He’s since bashed it, saying “it just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down.” He also called it “dated.”
“I’d rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys,” he added, “than sit there in the audience.”
Kanye West has eight nominations and has earned 21 Grammys throughout his career, but he’s also boycotting the event. In October, he said, “If [Frank’s] album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showin’ up to the Grammys.”
Despite his own eight nods, Drake won’t be attending this year’s ceremony as he will be overseas on his “Boy Meets World Tour.” His fellow nominee Justin Bieber, who is up for Album of the Year, will also be a no-show. According to TMZ, the artists feel that the Grammys are “out of touch and arguably irrelevant.”
Nevertheless, the show will go on. The 59th Annual Grammy Awards is set to go down Feb. 12 with performances by Adele, Bruno Mars, and John Legend, among others.
