Kanye West withdrawals his support for Donald Trump
Yeezy is no longer on Team Trump.
After endorsing and meeting with then-President-elect Donald Trump, Kanye West is now against the current POTUS, according to TMZ.
The report, which does not cite sources, claims that West removed all of his supportive Trump-based tweets because he is unhappy with the President’s first two weeks in office. He isn’t alone as Trump’s actions, including a controversial executive order on immigration, have sparked nationwide protests in recent weeks.
The G.O.O.D. Music boss surprised many of his fans with a Trump endorsement in November, shortly after the businessman won the election. “If I would’ve voted, I would have voted for Trump,” he said during a “Saint Pablo Tour” show. “I don’t think his approach was just entertaining, because that trivializes it. I actually think that his approach was absolutely genius because it fucking worked.”
The following month, he met with Trump in New York and responded to critics of this meeting on Twitter. “I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues,” tweeted Kanye. “These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago. I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.”
In spite of his endorsement, Kanye was not invited to perform at Trump’s inauguration. “We haven’t asked him. I mean, he’s been great. He considers himself a friend of the president-elect, but it’s not the venue,” said Presidential Inauguration Committee Chair Tom Barrack Jr. “The venue we have for entertainment is filled out. It’s perfect. It’s going to be typically and traditionally American. Kanye’s a great guy. We just haven’t asked him to perform. We move on with our agenda.”
Kanye has yet to issue an official statement on his stance.
