Drake Posts and Deletes Potential ‘More Life’ Release Date
As fans wait on Drake’s More Life playlist, the OVO boss provided a potential update on the highly-anticipated work…and then deleted it.
On Friday (March 3), the Canadian MC posted a message to fans in Swedish, clearly inspired by his surroundings while on the overseas “Boy Meets World Tour.” “Om du över sätter det här är det försent,” reads the message. Its reported translation: “If you’re reading/translating this, it’s too late,” a nod to Drizzy’s 2015 mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
Below the Swedish writing, Drake offered what appeared to be the release date, writing “More Life” and “March 4, 2017.” He signed it “Pojken,” which means “The Boy.” But Pojken deleted the post shortly after, making it unclear whether More Life will actually arrive today (March 4).
Fan theories are now running wild. One fan, for instance, speculated that the post was actually a shoutout to Sweden, where his “Boy Meets World Tour” is stopping tonight. “It’s likely he posted it as a joke/shoutout to Sweden, signed it March 4 because that’s the date [his tour is] in Sweden then added More Life because he’s always saying it,” the person noted (via XXL). “Probs deleted it because he realized the connotations.”
If More Life is being pushed back, it certainly wouldn’t be the project’s first delay. Originally announced in October of 2016, the effort was expected in December. However, it was eventually postponed to early 2017.
Last month, Drake was part of an extensive More Life-centric interview on OVOSOUND Radio, in which he explained the playlist concept. “The style in which it’s being put together is based off of our concept that is OVOSOUND Radio,” he said. “You’ll kind of hear it when you hear the project. I love the way it’s put together. It’s really put together as a seamless listen. Basically, what I asked myself was, ‘What would happen if I just did an OVOSOUND Radio but every song was a new Drake song?’ That was kind of my idea for it.’
“It’s just an evolution of the mixtape,” he added. “It was getting tough to be like, ‘I’m dropping a mixtape but it’s for sale on iTunes.’ It was like, ‘Oh, that’s your album.’ I didn’t want people to say this is my next album. Views was my album. This is something that, after Views, I was just inspired. I wanted to keep the music flowing.”
During the episode, Drake’s manager Oliver El-Khatib hinted towards More Life dropping during the March 4 episode of OVOSOUND Radio, which is set to air at 3 p.m. PST. Meanwhile, “The Boy Meets World Tour” continues tonight (March 4) in Stockholm and continues through March 28 in Amsterdam.
